Frequently Asked Questions

Please get in touch with us at admin@backroadsk9.org if you are still looking for an answer to your question.

  • Can I Train My Dog to Become a Service Dog?

Absolutely, we offer an Owner/Self-Training Program. Dogs under the age of 3 must pass a Temperament Assessment before starting classes.

  • Do You Provide Certification and Registration for Service Dogs?

There are no state or federal requirements for the certification or registration of service dogs. To qualify as a service dog, the dog must be individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability and demonstrate appropriate behavior in public. We offer classes to support those who want to train their dogs.

  • Can You Train My Dog as an Emotional Support Animal?

There is no specific training for an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). Dogs whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as Service Dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and, therefore, do not have the same rights as task-trained Service Dogs.

  • Do You Only Work With Children?

No, while our founder’s passion is working with children, we have expanded our services to support Veterans, First Responders, Law Enforcement, and Civilians.

  • Why Do I Need a Doctor’s Note for a Service Dog?

A Doctor’s note can serve several vital purposes when obtaining a service dog:

    1. Legal Protection: It can help defend you in court if needed.
    2. ADA Enforcement: It supports you if you press charges or report a business that refuses ADA compliance.
    3. Travel Requirements: A Doctor’s note can be helpful if you face challenges at an airport with your Service Dog.
